Is mental health important to you? And not just your mental health but the mental health and well-being of those around you. In your community? In your workplace? Do you wish more people were aware of easy-to-use tools and resources at their disposal? Tools that might help with self-care or recognizing when someone you love is suffering? Then you just might be a Wellness Ambassador!
Give an Hour created a program for individuals like you who, in their everyday lives, can commit to prioritizing mental health and emotional wellness by sharing tools and resources in groups and places where you are active already (e.g., book clubs, parent-teacher organizations, church groups, workplace teams). The best part is it’s not necessary for you to be a mental health professional. All that’s required is you understand the importance of mental health for all.
Why a Wellness Ambassador Program is Necessary
With a mental health care crisis and a shortage of mental health professionals in the U.S., Give an Hour is working to supplement traditional one-on-one therapy with programs, training, resources and a network of volunteer, licensed, mental health care professionals. But there’s more we can do …
Whether it’s lack of funds, resources or knowledge, we know people are not getting the help they need. So if our Wellness Ambassadors can be proactive in their communities and help provide awareness, opportunities and tools for people to take charge of their mental health, maybe we can make a difference – one person, one community at a time.
“Give an Hour’s Wellness Ambassador program gives volunteers the opportunity to get involved in their communities in a very intentional way,” said Nickie Silverstein, program manager at Give an Hour. “Our program provides tools, resources and support so they can be wellness advocates who lead by example with care and compassion.”
The Wellness Ambassador program is intended to encourage and empower individuals to take charge of mental health in their communities. Give an Hour will provide regular communications and support to guide Wellness Ambassadors in their local endeavors.
