At Give an Hour we pride ourselves on not only offering support to those in need of mental health services or resources but also in supporting the independently licensed, mental health professionals who make it all possible.
The Warrior Book Club is a great example of a benefit we offer our network of more than 4,400 providers. Shauna “Doc” Springer, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist and renowned mental health professional known for her work with the active-duty military and veteran communities, will lead two virtual conversations for GAH providers that offer strategies they can apply in their own practices with military and veteran patients.
“Helping mission-driven healers gain critical insights into how best to support warriors and first responders is core to my purpose,” said Springer, an authority on psychological trauma, military transition, suicide prevention and close relationships. She will lead providers through her best-selling book, “WARRIOR: How to Support Those Who Protect Us” and they will learn how:
- to build trust across a cultural divide
- warriors build trust in other contexts
- to help warriors with survivor’s guilt, moral injuries and grief from losing military brothers and sisters
Give an Hour offers this book club opportunity exclusively to network providers who each will receive a copy of Springer’s book, access to two, one-hour, webinars led by Springer and two hours of continuing education units at the completion of both webinars.
“Mental health professionals are the backbone of our services to the military and veteran communities and it is our pleasure to offer this learning opportunity focused on culturally responsive care that allows them to engage with a leading authority in the field at no cost,” said Erin McNair, director of program development at Give an Hour. “It is our hope that each and every one of our providers will take advantage of this benefit.”
The Warrior Book Club, exclusive to our providers, is made possible by support from the Wasily Family Foundation and, of course, Dr. Shauna Springer, who graciously offered her time and expertise to allow our mental health professionals to earn free continuing education units.
