We are proud to partner with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to ensure that all Veterans in need of mental health care and support – and their families – receive the services they deserve. Give an Hour’s (GAH) collaboration with the VA will facilitate better sharing of training resources and information between our organizations. Our partnership will help ensure that Veterans and family members receiving care through GAH have access to community based providers who have information about the military culture as well as current evidence-based treatment approaches. In addition, GAH is proud that the VA is one of our key partners in the Campaign to Change Direction. Together we are working to change the culture of mental health for those who serve, our veterans and their families. We are working with our VA colleagues and VA programs like Make the Connection, to foster mental health literacy and reduce negative perceptions associated with seeking mental health care.

Calls to Action
Suicide Prevention Consultation Program for Providers
The VA Suicide Risk Management Consultation Program provides consultation to all providers who serve Veterans, enhances knowledge and confidence, and provides emotional support with the aim of optimizing care for all suicidal Veterans. Providing care for Veterans at risk of suicide may feel like a daunting responsibility. Why worry alone? To learn more about available resources, visit www.mirecc.va.gov/visn19/consult.
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a significant public health concern. The VA Rocky Mountain MIRECC TBI toolkit provides necessary information to address the needs of individuals with a history of TBI and co-occurring mental health conditions. The toolkit specifically emphasizes TBI in justice-involved and Military/Veteran populations. This toolkit is designed to assist professionals in identifying TBI and associated co-occurring problems and to facilitate determining potential need for further evaluation and/or treatment/case planning modification. In addition, relevant information and resources for families/support systems are available.
VA Campaign - Make the Connection
MakeTheConnection.net is an online resource designed to connect Veterans, their family members and friends, and other supporters with information, resources, and solutions to issues affecting their lives. We encourage you to visit MakeTheConnection.net/MHM to learn more about how you can support the Veterans in your life — and to hear Veterans share their stories about the moments that have been pivotal for them.
Emotional pain is part of our experience as human beings. Give an Hour provides care and support for those who otherwise might not receive it by harnessing the skill, expertise and generosity of volunteer mental health professionals across the country.
